Whether it be Mustangs or Buckeyes, the Hawks have had no trouble putting down state champions. However Friday night the Hawks will take on a bigger champion. A team of six rings, the Carthage Bobcats. Carthage is 4A division I while PG is 4A division II.

“It’s going to be fun because it’s our last game before district,” coach Josh Gibson said. “We need to be clicking on all cylinders to beat a team like that.”

The Hawks are ready to show their skill for this game. They are ready to prove they are not a one-hit wonder.

“It’s a test of our program, and our  team to show how good we are,” junior Blake Slade said. “Winning will be a big step up to our program, and a upset to them.”

Carthage won’t just roll over, however. They will be looking to keep winning.

“They have won six out of the last ten championships they’ve been in, and I know it will be a tough game,” senior James Wiggins said. “They’re going to play hard through the whole game, so we have to as well.”

The Hawks know this game means a lot, so they’re pushing to win in every practice.

“Winning would set a good tone on going into district next week,” junior Ben Harmon said.

Carthage is the last team the Hawks will face before they start district play to make another state run. This is why coach Gibson went  with a difficult schedule, such as Gladwater and Henderson.

“I choose to play Carthage because of the success that they have had. Not a lot of teams can do what they have done,” coach Gibson said.

Champ versus champ will be facing each other in the  Friday night showdown.

“To be the best,” coach Gibson said, “you have to face the best.”
