The band performs their full show during a home football game earlier this school year.

With the current coronavirus situation, the Pleasant Grove Band’s annual Spring Award Ceremony, which was previously held in the high school PAC, will be live-streamed on Facebook Live and YouTube tonight.

Though the ceremony is usually held on school grounds, hosting it online is a good alternative in the current situation.

“I believe an online platform will be a great substitute,” band director John “Bass” Deese said. “I know that this will be new for everyone, but we hope that our viewers can enjoy tonight’s celebration in the comfort of their home.”

The band program will be presenting many different awards to honor students and plans to mainly showcase this year’s senior band members.

“We will recognize outstanding achievements in woodwind, brass, percussion, colorguard, and jazz band,” Deese said. “The highlight of the night will be to honor our 2020 band seniors. Our band members, especially our seniors, deserve recognition for all of the hard work they have put into this school year.”

“We have several outstanding awards to present tonight, such as the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, the National School Marching Award, the Director’s Award, the Patrick S. Gilmore Award, and our biggest overall award, the John Philip Sousa Award,” Deese said.

Students in the band program are looking forward to tuning into the ceremony tonight.

“I’m looking forward to this crazy experience,” sophomore band member Kacye Tuberville said. “I’m very thankful that our band directors have come up with something so everyone will get to experience this. I can’t wait to see all the awards.”

Senior band members will participate in senior superlatives where categories like ‘Best Dressed’ and ‘Celebrity Look Alike’ will be presented.

The award ceremony will be broadcasted from the Pleasant Grove Hawk Facebook page and Youtube tonight at 6 p.m.
