Signing up to listen to politician screams out boring; however,  sometimes it can keep you wide awake.

On Sept. 24, Student Council teacher Tiffany Beck  and ten Stuco members went to the Sullivan Performing Arts Center at Texas High School to hear Rep. Gary VanDeaver speak on issues among the students within his school district.

Rep. VanDeaver conducted a student session to talk about problems like education, school safety, and mental health, Mrs. Beck said.

Along with addressing the problems students face in school, VanDeaver got student’s voices on how they feel about these issues.

“I thought VanDeaver was a great speaker because he got our opinions out,” sophomore Natalie Nickolson said.

VanDeaver also presented what he was doing in regards to the matter.

“It was nice to see how he discussed some solutions to problems within the Texas School System, ” sophomore Carson Sanders said.

To make students more involved, VanDeaver also brought along Mentimeter, a presentation software that receives feedback from students right away.

“I thought the Mentimeter was cool because it showed our results and polls right then”, Natalie said. “It made us feel like we were interacting.”

Students who attended the meeting were inspired by VanDeaver.

“Seeing how much VanDeaver does to help us everyday stood out to me, ” Natalie said. “He wanted to better our futures.”
