Scholarships for Black Students

With college application season upon us (and college tuition not getting any cheaper), many high school students are looking to take advantage of as many scholarship opportunities as they can. In light of Black History Month, we have collected five scholarships exclusively-available to black students.

 

African-American Journalism Scholarship 

Award: $1,000

This scholarship is open to any black student who seeks to pursue a career in journalism. Applicants are required to write a 500 to 1,000-word essay about why they are interested in journalism as a career. The application deadline is May 11, 2021. Winners will be announced on June 11, 2021.

 

CollegeExpress’s Multicultural Community Service Scholarship

Award: $2,000

This scholarship is open to black students who will be college freshmen in the fall, and are passionate about community service and helping others. CollegeExpress asks applicants to write a 1,000-word essay describing their community service activities and why they are important to the applicant. The application deadline is April 1, 2021. Scholarship winners will be notified shortly after the deadline.

 

Gabriella Carter Music and Me Scholarship

Award: $1,000

This scholarship is available to any black student who has a passion for music. The scholarship organization, Bold.org, writes that this scholarship “exists to support Black students who can also resonate with the comfort that only music can bring.” The applicant is required to write a 250 to 500-word essay about a song that holds a special meaning to them. The application deadline is March 4, 2021. Scholarship winners will be announced on March 26, 2021.

 

Impact Scholarship for Black Students

Award: $2,550

This scholarship is open to any black student, regardless of grade, who dreams big and has a vision for their future. Applicants are required to write a 500 to 1,000-word essay about what they plan to achieve in life. The application deadline is May 11, 2021. Scholarship winners will be announced on June 11, 2021.

 

Undiscovered Brilliance Scholarship

Award: $1,000

This scholarship is open to any black student, regardless of education level, who shows strong drive, determination, and ambition. Applicants must write a 500 to 1,000 word essay about who they are and how they dream big in their life. The application deadline is May 16, 2021. Scholarship winners will be announced on June 16, 2021.
