From the Friday leading into Spring Break to the Sunday night before we come back I will spend 51 hours working. 51 hours sitting around a pool watching people swim, hoping they don’t drown.

51 hours dreaming about the break I could have had. Sleeping in. Playing video games on my laptop. Eating good meals. Taking a mid-afternoon nap.

For 51 hours I will think about how much time I could have spent with my girlfriend, or went to Six Flags (in Dallas) with my family.

51 hours of wondering what my friends are doing. Are they partying? Are they still asleep? Are they volunteering their time to help puppies at an animal shelter?

But in reality, it will be filled with fast food, the threat of being fired if I even begin to doze off, playing count the dots in the ceiling, and waking up bright and early at 8 AM.

Instead of being with my friends and family, I will be with my coworkers suffering through a brutal stretch of 9 hour shifts, having customers gripe at me, and yelling at kids not to run on the pool deck.

I won’t even be able to keep up with my friends, because I can’t use my phone when I’m lifeguarding at the pool.
I dreamed an exciting, and relaxing Spring Break. Instead I got scheduled for 51 hours of work.
